"...In 1982, contemporary folk art stepped into the mainstream, with the Southern Folk Art exhibit at the Corcoran Museum of Art in Washington DC. More than a twenty-five years later, a new generation of artists are emerging, aware of both folk and contemporary and modern art, and influenced by both. These artists create with a no rules attitude that is the voice of a whole new generation. Staying in the narrative and pragmatic tradition of the Southern Folk artists that came before them, this group of young artists portray their individual experiences and varying perspectives in a unique new style. Although the styles all vary, we find them harmonious, and fitting quite well into a new sub genre we call Folk Pop."
